Board Certified Family Medicine

Narcotics and Controlled Substances
Patients requiring sustained ongoing narcotics and/or other controlled substances will be referred to a specialist for their
particular needs. We do not provide monthly prescriptions for narcotics for chronic pain conditions. These include, but
not limited to: OxyContin (oxycodone), MSContin (morphine), Durgesic (fentanyl), Vicodin (hydrocodone), or any other
medications in the same class. We also do not provide monthly prescriptions for benzodiazepines including, but not limited
to: Xanax (alprazolam), Ativan (lorazepam), Valium (diazepam), or any other medications in the same class.
Antibiotics
Dr Sharp does not prescribe antibiotics over the phone or without being seen in the office for an examination. With daily
urgent care appointments available, appropriate physical examinations should be done before a prescription is given.
Please consider that many acute illnesses are viral in nature and not bacterial and thus do not require an antibiotic.
Vaccinations
Most typical childhood and adult vaccinations are provided. In rare cases, the patient may be referred to the Pennsylvania
Public Health Department for vaccinations. We do not administer Gardisil vaccinations in our office. Those who chose
not to vaccinate their children may be asked to sign a waiver acknowledging the risks of doing so.
Work Notes and School Notes for days missed
If your school or employer requires a note for time missed from school or work, you must be seen in the office for a
documented visit in order for Dr Sharp to provide a note. Under no circumstances will these be provided without an office
visit.
